I am a complete novice with synthesisers. I would like to know what layers are and how do use them.

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

Thanks Colin, that would be definetely covered in the first Season.

That's a great idea. I think perhaps deconstructing how you've made one of the songs for a soundset (e.g. Equinoxe 4 or any other) could be really helpful.

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

That is a good idea - I had that already in my mind to give an example, how I programmed some of my Patches. Thanks!

Hi Maik, could you please help us about contructing rythms lines (something like a step sequencer with drum sounds ?) Thanks for your amazing work !

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

Fantastic hint - I will put that into my list. That could be something for the 2nd season. Thanks a lot!

Hi Mail, excellent idea! Would be great if you could spend time on the mod matrix, especially how to program it with perhaps some specific examples regarding ratcheting, glissando/portamento on/of when progressing through a wave sequence, etc. The WS is fantastic, but getting to know the mod matrix is hard and some help from an expert would be greatly appreciated!

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

Yes - Mod Matrix is kind of a pandoras box. I will add it to my list. Thanks for your input!

Hi Maik, I would like you to explain a really simple triangle wave vibrato applied with the mod wheel and speed and intensity applied by performance knobs ! I have been playing synths for decades and have become so used to this being hardwired that I get lazy when I have to use a matrix !

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

For sure this will be in the first season in the LFO Section episode. Thanks!

Hi Maik. I have a different question if possible. I purchased a wave state after i seen your 80s pack but I could never get them loaded these was an issue with the software recognising the WS? Think its a common issue after an update. I even had a session with Korg and it still didnt work. How does yours recognise it?

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

Hi Steve, are you on Windows? I am a Mac User myself but I know, that people could fix this connectivity issue when they turned off VPN and anti virus software. You might want to visit Marc Barnes Facebook group "Ultimate Korg Wavestate". The guys are very helpful there!

Thanks for your reply Maik. Yes I am, although there are a number of Mac books lurking if i can get one of the kids to do me a deal. Thanks il probably look down this route. Secondly Id love to see some more classic JMJ patches and performances especially the faster ones , are you going to release more of these ?

hello Maik, thank you for all you do, your sounds for the wavestate are precious and the method useful for my future concerts. However, I have some advice for you: when I create my multi-samples and transfer them with the Korg bank, the Wavestate does not detect my sounds. I am missing the wsbundle file, which I don't know how to create.

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

Hi Dennis, the WS.Bundle file ist only the patch file, that you create in the WS itself. So you would have to look up your user samples inside the WS first and then create the sound.

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

But I write that into my list, too. I will explain how to create and treat user samples in a later season.

Hi Maik , anything to do with building evolving sequences using the Arpeggiator would be great

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

Thanks, an Arp episode is planned - and expanding these in the sequences is a good point!

HI THERE'I THINK ALL OF WHAT YOU SAID IS A VERY GOOD IDEA FOR THE PROPOSED WAVESTATE TUTORIALS...JUST BOUGHT YOUR SYNTH LEGEND LIBRARY..WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW YOU CHANGE THE DIFFERENT PATCHES USING THE SET LIST FUNCTION BUTTONS RATHER THAN THE VALUE SCROLL KNOB...ESPECIALLY WITH THE 'VANGELIS '1492 CONQUEST OF PARADISE & PULSAR SETS....ALSO HOW TO SELECT PROGRAMS RATHER THAN PERFORMANCES.....IT'S A SHAME KORG NEVER GAVE US A PROPER MANUAL AS IT'S SO DEEP...MANY THANKS MAIK SCHOTT' YOU PROGRAMMING IS TOP QUALITY

Maik SchottCreator

Thanks a lot - you saw the fav button video already, right? According to the programs - I will make an episode about the patch structure on the Wavestate. I think it deserves a full episode.

You are amazing! My hope for this series is an answer to the question: how do I get past presets and to designing my own patches? Like could there be an example of building a patch from the ground up, starting with a pad, some sharp percussive sounds, some moving in looping, and onto effects? I’m not a synth newbie. I program FM synths, have a D50, and am a deft hand at Elektron’s Octatrck; I love complexity. But when I sit down on the Wavestate, I feel overwhelmed. Thank you!

Comment author avatar
Maik SchottCreator

You mean like creating an Evolving wave sequence sound with different layers from scratch?

Very good idea. On my side inam interested by things which are not clearly explained in the Manual. For instance create a setlist is easy. But programing layers, lanes and knob is more difficult

Maik SchottCreator

Thanks a lot for your input - this is already on my priority list.

Hi … I would like to know how you import your own samples … Whether you use SampleRobot or the Korg editors, to build my own sound set … Thanks!

Thanks for doing these, Maik! Youre quite generous with your knowledge. What I would enjoy seeing, is building a Drum Multisample from scratch. Capture samples through MPC Beats (free) - not SampleRobot, then build up a multisample that is mapped to the general MIDI drum note numbers. I've purchased your sets, where you have mapped certain drum sounds, and used those in your sound sets.. but interested in the process, for creating a full drum set, mapped across the keyboard. It's something I am surprised nobody has done. Yes.. there are a couple of Wavestate kits ( Drm_WS: Drum Kit, Drm_WS: Kit 1, Drm_WS: Psycho Kit) -- but armed with MPC Beats and a little knowledge :) -- one can create Kits for all the standards. Note: I've figured this out - but think it would be hugely helpful for someone to share a video how-to. :)

Especially interested in learning how to load high quality sample sets into my own performance.

OK, thanks - that will appear in the User Samples Episode, I think

I love this idea Maik! I have the Wavestate but haven't taken the deep dive on programing yet. I certainly look forward to your series and am sure it will help me get into some serious creation with the unit. I love your creative offerings and videos. Have enjoyed them immensely. You do great work!

Hello Maik, I think these general help video manuals are a great idea from you! Your sound libraries and approach to the Wavestate is by far the most interesting I found around, it really shows some of the peculiar capabilities of this unique synth. I think you can do a great job sharing some hints with us, I'm really looking forward to it. Here are my suggestions, most already mentioned: 1. Programming examples from your sets. Taking a few representative patches and showing how they are built. 2. Constructing rythm lines/drum programming on the Wavestate 3. Tips on how to export/import sounds and set lists and organize them wisely Thanks

I am excited to hear about your new instructional video series. Will these be YouTube videos (I hope!)? You had both a WaveState and WaveMod in one video, so in a later season perhaps, I would like to hear the differences and similarities between these two explored, and maybe some tips on how to use them together.
